Monument areas are groups of buildings, even if not every individual building fulfils the requirements of a monument. Monument areas may include city layouts, cityscapes, townscapes and silhouettes, districts and quarters, settlements, groups of farmsteads, streets, complete structures and individual buildings as well as their immediate surroundings, provided that they are significant for the decision-making process. This may also include craft and industrial production sites (Section 2 (3) DSchG NRW).
