A right of way is a right to use a path, i.e. an access. A right of way is usually defined in connection with a so-called right of way. This is a right (if registered) in the land register according to which the entitled person may use a footpath or driveway over another person's land for the purpose of passage or drive-through to his or her own property.
Such a right of way is virtually attached to the property and passes to the purchaser of the property in the event of a sale - always provided that the right of way is registered in the land register.
