Soil monuments are movable or immovable monuments that are or were located in the soil. Evidence of animal and plant life from earth-historical times, as well as changes and discolourations in the natural soil composition caused by soil monuments that are no longer independently recognisable, are also considered to be soil monuments, provided they are to be qualified (so § 2 para. 1 and para. 5 DSchG NRW).
